Ezekiel 17:2

Son of man, put forth a riddle, and speak a parable unto the house of Israel;

The riddle and parable announces the end of the theocracy under Zedekiah, the profane wicked prince of Israel in the line of David who had been made subject to the king of Babylon. He had entered into a solemn covenant before God to render loyal allegiance to Babylon, but he broke that covenant, and for that breach God decreed the removal of the diadem and the crown. The earthly kingdom of God, the throne of the Lord, was thereby made subject to Babylon.

It was to be overturned three times, when Babylon fell to Medo-Persia, when Medo-Persia fell to Grecia, and when Grecia gave way to Rome, and shall be no more until He come whose right it is, to whom it will be given. He whose right it is is Jesus, to whom the Lord God shall give the throne of His father David to reign over the house of Jacob forever, yet whose kingdom while on earth was not of this world. The throne of the Lord has thus been removed from this world until His coming at the end of this world and the beginning of the world to come, which is why a theocratical form of government is not good for this time.
