Ezekiel 17:6
And it grew, and became a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward him, and the roots thereof were under him: so it became a vine, and brought forth branches, and shot forth sprigs. And it grew, and became a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward him, and the roots thereof were under him: so it became a vine, and brought forth branches, and shot forth sprigs.
Ezekiel 17:6 belongs to God's judgment upon Zedekiah that brought the earthly theocracy to its end. Zedekiah had been made subject to the king of Babylon under a solemn covenant made before God, by which he was bound to render loyal allegiance. That covenant he broke, violating his oath and obligation to Babylon. As the wicked and profane prince of Israel he therefore lost the diadem and the crown. The kingdom was then made subject to Babylon and overturned three times through the successive dominions of Babylon, Medo-Persia, Grecia, and Rome, and the throne of the Lord was removed from this world, to exist no more until He whose right it is should come and it should be given to Him.
