Ezekiel 17:8

It was planted in a good soil by great waters, that it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a goodly vine.

The larger passage of Ezekiel 17:1-21 traces the throne of the Lord in David's line down to Zedekiah. Zedekiah was made subject to the king of Babylon under a solemn covenant made before God, binding him to render loyal allegiance. Because he broke that covenant, God pronounced judgment upon him in the removal of the diadem and the crown and the overturning of the kingdom, to remain overturned until the coming of Him whose right it is.
