Ezekiel 18:17
That hath taken off his hand from the poor, that hath not received usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live. That hath taken off his hand from the poor, that hath not received usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live.
The verse teaches individual accountability before God, that each person is judged for his own conduct and does not die for the iniquity of his father. The righteous person it describes has taken his hand off from exploiting and oppressing the poor, has refused to receive usury or increase, has executed just judgments, and has walked in God's statutes. That obedient person shall not die but shall surely live. Its call to hear and heed instruction means receiving reproof with a teachable spirit, so that God's blessing may come. It also warns that God sees unjust decisions and will judge those who oppress others.
