Ezekiel 18:21

But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

If the wicked turns from all the sins he has committed and keeps all the statutes and does what is lawful and right, he shall surely live and shall not die. When he so turns, none of his former transgressions shall be mentioned against him, but in the righteousness he then practices he shall live, for God has no pleasure at all in the death of the wicked but desires that he return from his ways and live. No one's standing is fixed by irrevocable election, since turning from sin brings life, while the paired warning in Ezekiel 33:13 is that if the righteous trusts in his own righteousness and commits iniquity he shall die and his former righteous deeds shall not be remembered. God is the owner of every soul, so children who have reached the years of accountability are responsible for their own actions and must cooperate with God in working out their own salvation.

A converted child with unbelieving parents must therefore obey God when a parental command conflicts with God's commands, trusting the heavenly Father to open the way to do righteousness without practicing iniquity. The chapter calls God's people to heed its messages of reproof and warning with patience and a teachable spirit. Those who take heed will receive the Lord's blessing.
