Ezekiel 18:22

All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.

The promise is that when a wicked person turns away from all his wickedness and keeps God's statutes and does what is lawful and right, he will surely live and will not die. When he so turns, none of his former transgressions are mentioned or held against him, and he lives on account of the righteousness he now practices. This reveals that God takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked but desires him to turn from his ways and live. It rests on God's ownership of every soul, both father and son, so that guilt is not passed from parent to child or from child to parent. Children who have reached the age of accountability are therefore responsible for their own actions, must cooperate with God in working out their own salvation, and must obey God first when a parent's command conflicts with God's command.

The chapter calls for faithful work at all times and in all places by giving messages of reproof and warning to God's people, including mothers, fathers, and the children of Israel, so they do not go forward blindly. That warning is to be spoken the same whether people listen or refuse to listen. If those who are warned listen and take heed with patience and a generous, teachable spirit, blessing will come to them.
