Ezekiel 18:26

When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.

When a righteous man turns away from his righteousness and commits iniquity and dies in those sins, he dies for the iniquity that he has done, and his former righteousness does not prevent or excuse that outcome. God judges each person according to his ways. The verse carries His call for the sinner to repent and turn from transgression, for He takes no pleasure in anyone's death and calls people to live.

It is the Lord's message of reproof and warning to His people, to mothers, to fathers, and to the children of Israel, given so they will not move blindly. It is to be spoken faithfully at all times and in all places, just the same whether people will hear or whether they will forbear. Those who hear it and take heed with patience and a generous, teachable spirit will receive the Lord's blessing, and He will instruct, strengthen, bless, refine, and ennoble them.

It applies to those who persist in oppression and unjust dealings: God sees their acts and will judge them, so they must not be assured that all will be well.
