Ezekiel 18:27
Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.
Again, when the wicked man turns away from the wickedness he has committed and does that which is lawful and right, he shall live and save his soul alive. Past wickedness does not prevent life when a person repents and does what is right. The verse comes as part of God's messages of reproof and warning to His people, to mothers, fathers, and children, so they will not move blindly, whether they will hear or whether they will refuse to hear.
Those who persist in wrongdoing remain accountable to God, who sees unjust acts and will judge them. Its warning supports the duty to confront people who are acting against the light they have received. Turning back to God includes a sincere desire to do His will, shown in changed conduct and obedience to His law. The wicked must hear with patience and a generous, teachable spirit, and then God instructs, strengthens, blesses, refines, and ennobles them.
The call to turn from transgression and live is joined to God's promise to cleanse people, give them a new heart and spirit, and put His Spirit within them so they walk in His statutes. Repentance must hold confidence firm to the end and must remove every stumbling block, great or small, put in another's path, including wrongs in spirit, word, or deed.
