Ezekiel 20:31
For when ye offer your gifts, when ye make your sons to pass through the fire, ye pollute yourselves with all your idols, even unto this day: and shall I be enquired of by you, O house of Israel? As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be enquired of by you.
When Israel brought forward their gifts and caused their sons to pass through the fire, they defiled themselves by means of all their idols. Their acts of worship did not cleanse or honor them but polluted them because idolatry was bound up with the offerings themselves. For as long as they clung to that idolatrous pollution, the Lord refused to let Himself be consulted by them. No inquiry from the house of Israel would be answered while they persisted in such defilement.
