Ezekiel 20:35

And I will bring you into the wilderness of the people, and there will I plead with you face to face.

To plead face to face is to meet his people directly through weak human instruments with teaching that uncovers their real condition and calls them to change. At Jackson this took place when the church was given such searching instruction to show it where it stood and to urge it to a different course. To reject that teaching is to reject his own pleading effort to set his people right.

The setting of verses 33 through 38 lays out a pattern of deliverance through judgment. As the plagues upon Egypt fell just before and during the freeing of Israel from bondage, so the seven last plagues upon the wicked will fall just before and during the freeing of the saints. Judgment on the oppressor and liberation of the oppressed belong together as one divine work.
