Ezekiel 21:15

I have set the point of the sword against all their gates, that their heart may faint, and their ruins be multiplied: ah! it is made bright, it is wrapped up for the slaughter.

The sharpened, shining sword of judgment is set against all the gates of Jerusalem. It is poised for attack at the gates to make hearts faint with fear. Its stroke multiplies ruins and destruction upon the city. The troubles and judgment that led to exile came because of idolatry and Sabbath desecration.

The verse marks the destruction of the kingdom of Judah and a change in human dominion. Three more overturnings were still to come, by Medo-Persia, by Grecia, and by Rome. After those overturnings Christ would come, and the kingdom would be His.
