Ezekiel 21:2

Son of man, set thy face toward Jerusalem, and drop thy word toward the holy places, and prophesy against the land of Israel,

Ezekiel was instructed to set his face toward Jerusalem, direct his word toward the holy places, and prophesy against the land of Israel as part of the warnings given before Jerusalem's destruction. That commission belongs to the account of the steps that led Israel into exile. Idolatry joined with Sabbath desecration is shown to have brought the people into trouble and captivity.

The prophecy thus begun declares that the children of Israel would be without a king during the days of their dispersion. It prophesies the destruction of the kingdom of Judah and a change in human dominion. After Judah three more overturnings of ruling power were to take place, by Medo-Persia, by Grecia, and by Rome, and then Christ would come and the kingdom would be His.
