Ezekiel 21:28
And thou, son of man, prophesy and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning the Ammonites, and concerning their reproach; even say thou, The sword, the sword is drawn: for the slaughter it is furbished, to consume because of the glittering:
The verse is part of the instruction given through Ezekiel during twenty-two years of pleading with Israel to turn to God. It belongs to the prophetic account in Ezekiel 20–22 of Israel's transgressions and the events that led to its dispersion, with idolatry and Sabbath desecration set forth as causes of the people's troubles and exile. It concerns the Ammonites and their reproach, serving as one illustration drawn from the kingdoms on all sides of Israel of how God has dealt with them to bring down their pride and the pride of those who remain.
It belongs to the prophecy of the destruction of the kingdom of Judah and the change in human dominion. The judgment on Zedekiah was that his reign would end, which was fulfilled when he was captured, blinded, and taken to Babylon, and after the exile Israel still had no independent Davidic king. David's throne would remain overturned until the one with the right to it came, to whom God would give it, who is Jesus as the rightful heir to David's throne. Three more overturnings of dominion were to take place by Medo-Persia, by Grecia, and by Rome, and then Christ would come and the kingdom would be His.
