Ezekiel 24:27
In that day shall thy mouth be opened to him which is escaped, and thou shalt speak, and be no more dumb: and thou shalt be a sign unto them; and they shall know that I am the LORD. In that day shall thy mouth be opened to him which is escaped, and thou shalt speak, and be no more dumb: and thou shalt be a sign unto them; and they shall know that I am the LORD.
Ezekiel 24:27 belongs to the warnings given before the destruction of Jerusalem. It marks the end of Ezekiel's dumbness, when one who escaped from Jerusalem reaches him and his mouth is opened so that he speaks again and is no more dumb. In this chapter Ezekiel's own privations and his bearing of his wife's death without public mourning illustrate the suffering and loss to come upon the people, including the destruction of the temple, their pride and joy.
In this Ezekiel was made a sign to the people. Through this sign the people would know that the Lord is God. The word for sign is literally signs in Hebrew, the same word used for Joshua and his companions. As Ezekiel served as a sign, so Joshua and his fellow priests in their priesthood served as signs of the Messiah, called the Branch.
