Ezekiel 25:17

And I will execute great vengeance upon them with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall lay my vengeance upon them.

The verse stands in that part of Ezekiel given to prophecies against foreign nations, which itself falls within the correction, denunciation, and reproof of the book. The prophecies of the chapter embrace the destruction of Ammon, Tyre, Moab, and the other nations round about Judah. The great vengeance is aimed at those nations because they rejoiced over Judah's humiliation. It is aimed at them because they rejoiced over the laying waste of God's sanctuary.

Upon them the Lord brings severe judgment, executing great vengeance with furious rebukes. By that judgment laid upon them they are brought to know that He is the Lord. The prophecy concerning other nations to which the verse belongs has a fulfillment that is evident today.
