Ezekiel 25:3
And say unto the Ammonites, Hear the word of the Lord GOD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou saidst, Aha, against my sanctuary, when it was profaned; and against the land of Israel, when it was desolate; and against the house of Judah, when they went into captivity;
Ezekiel 25:3 stands within the prophecies directed against the nations surrounding Israel, including Ammon, which set forth how God dealt with those neighboring kingdoms and humbled their pride. The word sanctuary in the verse denotes the sacred place or temple itself. The verse describes the Ammonites scornfully crying out in triumph over that sanctuary when it was profaned, over the land of Israel when it was made desolate, and over the house of Judah when its people went into captivity after Jerusalem was destroyed.
That rejoicing was not mere observation but delight in the humiliation of Judah and in God's sanctuary appearing profaned, left desolate and disgraced. Such delight in the apparent disgrace of God's sanctuary, work and institutions is an offense, and for this mockery God issued rebuke and announced judgment upon the offenders. The same scorn shown by the surrounding peoples who mocked Jerusalem and the temple in their desolation after their destruction drew divine punishment.
For the Ammonites in particular, the Lord announced as their specific destruction that Rabbah, the capital of Ammon, would be reduced to a dwelling place for camels and a resting place for flocks. This prophecy against the other nations belongs to those whose fulfillment is evident in the present day.
