A Herdsman Leads a Camel Through Ruined Rabbahby emmanuel_higgins

Ezekiel 25:5

And I will make Rabbah a stable for camels, and the Ammonites a couchingplace for flocks: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

Ezekiel 25:5 belongs to the prophecies against the surrounding nations, including Ammon, whose certain fate is declared in Ezekiel 25-31. It is part of the judgment against the Ammonites and part of a prophecy against a kingdom around Israel. As such it illustrates how God deals with surrounding nations and brings down their pride, punishing peoples who mocked Jerusalem in its desolation.

Rabbah was the capital and chief city of Ammon, and the verse predicts that Rabbah with the Ammonite lands would be destroyed and reduced to a stable for camels and a couching place for flocks rather than remaining prosperous cities. This judgment came because Ammon rejoiced over Judah's humiliation and mocked Jerusalem in its desolation, including the desolation of God's sanctuary. The desolation would prove that the LORD is God, showing that He had spoken and is sovereign.

The prediction was literally fulfilled and its fulfillment is evident today. Arabs pasture sheep there, sheep bleat among the ruins, camel dung covers the ruins of palaces, and a surviving building in the acropolis serves as a sheepfold.
