Ezekiel 28:4
With thy wisdom and with thine understanding thou hast gotten thee riches, and hast gotten gold and silver into thy treasures: With thy wisdom and with thine understanding thou hast gotten thee riches, and hast gotten gold and silver into thy treasures:
The verse belongs to the word of the Lord against the prince of Tyrus, whose heart was lifted up when he said he was God and set his heart as the heart of God. His wisdom and understanding were declared to be greater than Daniel's, with no secret hidden from him. By that wisdom and understanding he got riches for himself, getting gold and silver into his treasures. That accumulation of riches was joined to a lifted-up heart, with wealth becoming a cause of pride and feeding the claim to divine status.
Satan is represented as the actual king of Tyre because he fully controlled that government, and the nation served as his representative. The chapter's representation refers primarily to Lucifer while also describing a broader movement, showing the same pattern of created wisdom and prosperity turning to pride and sin. Lucifer used his abilities and wisdom to exalt himself. His self-exalting course shows how pride can become a power used to turn people against God and to persecute others, and this history is a lesson because it will be repeated.
The wisdom and understanding are those of Lucifer, the fallen angel expelled from heaven with his angels, who now watches every movement to divert minds from saving perishing souls. His great unsanctified wisdom works in disguise to magnify tiny details and small differences of opinion into confusion among believers and unbelievers in order to gain a hold and triumph by division. People do his work when they exalt their own wisdom and pick flaws instead of pressing together in silence.
