Ezekiel 29:1

In the tenth year, in the tenth month, in the twelfth day of the month, the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

The word of the LORD came to Ezekiel in the tenth year, in the tenth month, on the twelfth day of the month. That coming of the word begins a message and prophecy of judgment against Egypt. The prophecy stands within the book's group of prophecies against seven nations, and specifically within the series on Egypt in chapters 29 through 32.

In this prophecy Egypt is a former oppressor of God's people and a symbol of black infidelity. The surrounding prophecy names Pharaoh and his army, or Pharaoh's host, as its subjects and foretells their certain fate. It concerns Egypt's loss of power and fall from its former place among the nations, from one of the greatest kingdoms to the basest of kingdoms, to be brought low and abased and never again to rise among the nations.

The judgments in chapter 29 include dried-up rivers, abolished idols, and Egypt becoming the basest of kingdoms. The surrounding prophecy concerns Egypt's future, its later conquest and subjection to foreign rulers. These predictions about Egypt's fall and judgments are literally fulfilled.

The prophecy predicts that England will take complete control of Egypt.
