Ezekiel 29:6
And all the inhabitants of Egypt shall know that I am the LORD, because they have been a staff of reed to the house of Israel. And all the inhabitants of Egypt shall know that I am the LORD, because they have been a staff of reed to the house of Israel.
Egypt is pictured as an unreliable support for the house of Israel, like a reed that breaks when leaned upon. Its failure in that role would lead all the inhabitants of Egypt to know the Lord, as the king of Babylon was strengthened and his power was turned against Egypt. Turning to human help in times of trial brings disappointment, and the distrust and suspicion that result bring harmful consequences. Human help cannot be trusted as sure support, so human guidance must not be relied upon instead of looking to God, especially when that guidance is under deceptive influence.
