Ezekiel 30:17

The young men of Aven and of Pi-beseth shall fall by the sword: and these cities shall go into captivity.

Ezekiel 30:17 belongs to the prophecies against the nations, specifically the prophecies and judgments against Egypt in Ezekiel 29 through 32. It stands with the series in Ezekiel 25 to 31 in which Ammon, Moab, Tyre and Egypt pass under the prophet's vision. It is specifically a prophecy of Egypt concerning the certain fate to come upon Pharaoh and his host.

Its plain sense is that the young men of Aven and of Pi-beseth shall fall by the sword, killed by the sword, and these cities shall go into captivity, be taken captive. The verse foretells ruin, judgment by the sword and captivity upon Egyptian cities. Egypt at that time was one of the greatest of kingdoms and at one time the greatest empire on earth, possessing glory and wealth.

Egypt was a former oppressor of God's people and a symbol of black infidelity, devoted to idols and idol temples, with which its fall is connected. The judgment was to bring Egypt from glory and wealth to dishonor and poverty, to be brought low and abased, to become the very basest of the kingdoms and never to rise again among the nations. That word of judgment came as declared, has been literally fulfilled, and its fulfilment is evident today.

Its fulfillment came through Egypt's invasion and subjugation by Nebuchadnezzar, evidenced by Egypt's subsequent history of successive rule by foreign powers. The prophecy about Egypt is applied to England taking complete control of Egypt while Turkey's nominal sovereignty over Egypt ends.
