Ezekiel 30:20

And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the first month, in the seventh day of the month, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

The verse marks the time of the message that follows as the eleventh year, in the first month, on the seventh day of the month, and presents it as the word of the Lord coming to Ezekiel. In the arrangement of the book it stands in the prophecies against foreign nations in chapters 25-32. Those chapters concern Ammon, Moab, Tyre, and Egypt. More particularly, it stands in the prophecies concerning Egypt in chapters 29-32. Those prophecies foretell the certain fate to come upon Pharaoh and his host.

The surrounding prophecy declares God's judgments against Egypt and its idolatry. It declares Egypt's fall from power, defeat, desolation, and judgment. At that time Egypt was one of the greatest kingdoms, and had at one time been the greatest empire on earth. Yet the prophecy declares it would become the very basest of the kingdoms.

These prophecies against the nations have been literally fulfilled. Their fulfillment is evident today. Egypt's later invasions and subjection by foreign powers are the fulfillment of Ezekiel's predictions. The prophecy about Egypt was to be fulfilled when England took complete control of Egypt and Turkey's claimed sovereignty there passed away.
