Babylon's King Overpowers Pharaoh Beside a Burning Templeby emmanuel_higgins

Ezekiel 30:24

And I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and put my sword in his hand: but I will break Pharaoh’s arms, and he shall groan before him with the groanings of a deadly wounded man.

Ezekiel 30:24 belongs to the prophecies concerning Egypt in Ezekiel 29-32, foretelling its downfall and its certain fate. God strengthens the arms of the king of Babylon and puts His sword in his hand, giving him power and means to prevail over, conquer, and defeat Egypt. At the same time He breaks Pharaoh's arms and brings him down to groan and suffer defeat as a deadly wounded man.

The struggle it describes is Egypt's defeat by Babylon in their contest for world supremacy. Egypt's defeat and humiliation are God's judgment opposing Pharaoh because of its idolatry. The verse is an example of God bringing Egypt low and bringing down the pride of nations, using Babylon as His instrument of judgment.

The prediction has been literally fulfilled. Egypt, once one of the greatest kingdoms and at one time the greatest empire on earth, has become the very basest of the kingdoms, just as the companion predictions that her rivers would be dried up and her idols abolished were fulfilled. The prophecy was fulfilled when Nebuchadnezzar invaded and subdued Egypt. The prophecy concerning Egypt is also fulfilled through England's complete control of Egypt.
