Ezekiel 31:10
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast lifted up thyself in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height; Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast lifted up thyself in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;
The towering cedar with its top set among the thick boughs is Assyria, lifted high and made eminent above the trees as a nation grown great among the nations. Its fall came because its heart was lifted up in its height, becoming proud of its own greatness, with pride joined to cruelty and wickedness as the stated reason for judgment. For that pride and wickedness it was handed over to a mighty foreign nation and driven out, cut down from its exalted place. In this its overthrow stands as a warning to other nations not to exalt themselves in pride lest they fall the same way.
