Ezekiel 31:16
I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to hell with them that descend into the pit: and all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, shall be comforted in the nether parts of the earth.
The verse depicts the fall of Assyria, with the nations trembling at the sound of its downfall. Its casting down portrays a descent to the grave as a time of great mourning, when even the trees of the field faint. The fall of the proud and cruel Assyrian realm stands as an object lesson warning nations against exalting themselves.
