Ezekiel 31:3
Behold, the Assyrian was a cedar in Lebanon with fair branches, and with a shadowing shroud, and of an high stature; and his top was among the thick boughs. Behold, the Assyrian was a cedar in Lebanon with fair branches, and with a shadowing shroud, and of an high stature; and his top was among the thick boughs.
At the height of its prosperity Assyria was a tall, splendid, noble cedar in Lebanon, a figure of the great stature and glory and power of its realm. Its fair branches and shadowing cover were beautiful, spreading branches forming a canopy of shade. Its high stature and top among the thick boughs were a top rising among dense boughs in the garden of God, towering above the surrounding trees.
The cedar's lofty growth points to the pride that leads to Assyria's downfall. Its rise and fall is rich in lessons for the nations of earth today. The warning is against using unusual blessings not for the benefit of mankind but to become a merciless scourge that exalts false gods above the Most High.
