Ezekiel 32:16

This is the lamentation wherewith they shall lament her: the daughters of the nations shall lament her: they shall lament for her, even for Egypt, and for all her multitude, saith the Lord GOD.

This is the lamentation appointed for Egypt and for all her multitude, which the daughters of the nations shall take up and mourn over her. The nations themselves are called to lament her, and the daughters of the nations shall lament for Egypt and for her multitude. Her fate is thus made a cause for mourning among the peoples round about.

The lament announces her certain fate and downfall, even the certain fate of Pharaoh and his host. It is a prophecy of loss of power and status, of desolation coming upon her, and of the fall of those who uphold and support her. Egypt is to be brought low and abased and never to rise again among the nations. Once one of the greatest kingdoms and even the greatest empire, she was to become the basest of the kingdoms.

These prophecies concerning Egypt were literally fulfilled in her later history. The predicted subjugation and decline came to pass as foretold. In this same chapter hades is set in the depths of the earth and contrasted with the land of the living, showing it to be the realm of the dead.
