Ezekiel 32:3

Ezekiel 32:3 belongs to a prophecy against Egypt. It concerns the certain fate coming upon Pharaoh and his host, the fate awaiting them. The spreading of the net means the Lord himself brings judgment on Egypt by using a company of many peoples to capture it and bring it up, so that Egypt is overcome by the nations instead of retaining its power. The prophecy was literally fulfilled as Egypt declined from one of the greatest kingdoms to the basest of the kingdoms. The wider chapter places hades in the depths of the earth in contrast with the land of the living, showing that hades is the land of the dead and not a place inhabited by living people.
