Ezekiel 34:27
And the tree of the field shall yield her fruit, and the earth shall yield her increase, and they shall be safe in their land, and shall know that I am the LORD, when I have broken the bands of their yoke, and delivered them out of the hand of those that served themselves of them.
Ezekiel 34:27 belongs to God's covenant of peace and gives most precious encouragement. It promises that God Himself will break the bands of the yoke and deliver His flock from the hands of those who exploited them and served themselves of them. Upon that deliverance the tree of the field shall yield her fruit and the earth her increase, the people shall dwell safe in their land with security and well-being restored, and they shall know that He is the Lord.
The yoke is also the burden of injustice and oppression that must be removed, and this is connected with the teaching of Isaiah 58 that God's people are to feed the hungry and care for the afflicted with truth and righteousness. The fulfillment of the promise of restoration is tied to shepherds returning to loyalty to God and honoring His law, including the Sabbath. The most striking feature of the verse is the exceeding richness of pardoning mercy to the sinner if he repents and turns from his sin, showing the gospel as salvation through the tender mercies of God.
In showing mercy God does not turn from justice and cannot dishonor His law, and under the new covenant perfect obedience is the condition of life. The repentant and confessing sinner finds pardon because Christ's sacrifice has satisfied the demands of the law, giving to as many as receive Him power to become sons of God and grace for grace from His fullness.
