Ezekiel 35:12
And thou shalt know that I am the LORD, and that I have heard all thy blasphemies which thou hast spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, They are laid desolate, they are given us to consume. And thou shalt know that I am the LORD, and that I have heard all thy blasphemies which thou hast spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, They are laid desolate, they are given us to consume.
The saying is part of a prophecy of judgment directed against Seir, that is Edom. It falls within Ezekiel 26 to 40, which are stirring prophecies against the nations. It stands within Ezekiel 33 to 48, which give consolation and promise of restoration. Ezekiel 35 to 37 belong together as a portion whose thought is the hope of the resurrection.
Ezekiel 35 belongs to the last nineteen chapters of Ezekiel that have been brought forward to prove the return of the Jews, the reign of Christ on earth, and the earthly inheritance of the saints, but that use is overthrown by the teaching that at the second coming of Christ the saints are taken to heaven while the earth is desolated.
