Ezekiel 36:31

Then shall ye remember your own evil ways, and your doings that were not good, and shall lothe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations.

Ezekiel 36:31 describes those whom God has already forgiven and acknowledged as His own, after He has cleansed and renewed them. Such people remember their own former evil ways and wrong doings, and recognize clearly that those doings were not good. That remembrance causes them to loathe themselves in their own sight, with shame and grief over their iniquities and abominations.

This repentance does not fade but deepens as Christian experience grows and advances. God's mercy and restoration produce shame and repentance rather than self-glorification or self-credit, for He does not act for their sake. The experience teaches them that their sufficiency and righteousness are in Christ alone.
