And from the face of the gate of the entrance unto the face of the porch of the inner gate were fifty cubits.
The fifty cubits from the face of the entrance gate to the face of the porch of the inner gate is one recorded exactness in the vision of a man whose appearance was like brass standing in the gateway with a measuring reed in his hand. He measured the whole building with precision, the little chambers and the doorways and the arches and the pillars and the great gate looking toward the east. Even the smallest feature was taken and set down according to the reed, so that nothing was left unmeasured.
That exact measuring means that true measure is everything, for the measure is the very law of God brought into the least of human acts and dealings. The spiritual measure applied to the building is God's measure of the man.
That measure is learned and lived only through the power and grace brought through Jesus Christ, by loving God supremely and one's neighbor as oneself and by being faithful in the least. So lived, it elevates and ennobles and sanctifies, building character after the divine model in preparation for glory. A righteous life of honest, faithful dealing thus forms the whole righteous stature and structure.
When the measuring was finished the glory of God came in to fill the house. The house was then to be shown to Israel that they might be ashamed of their iniquities and measure themselves by the pattern. For this is the law of the house, that upon the top of the mountain the whole limit around it shall be most holy.
