Ezekiel 40:17

Then brought he me into the outward court, and, lo, there were chambers, and a pavement made for the court round about: thirty chambers were upon the pavement.

The verse belongs to the vision in which a man with a measuring reed measures the courts of the temple and their particulars, setting down each part with precision. The chambers and the pavement round about are included as portions of that measured house. The minuteness of the measuring shows that the divine measure is exact and reaches to every detail.

The measured pattern was appointed as a law for Israel to examine itself by and to come to a knowledge of its sins. In the same way the pattern declares that life and character are to be brought to the standard of God and measured by it.
