Ezekiel 40:20

And the gate of the outward court that looked toward the north, he measured the length thereof, and the breadth thereof.

The north-facing gate of the outer court belongs to God's exact measuring of the house, its length and its breadth taken and set down by the reed in the hand of the man like brass standing in the gate. That measuring is not of stone alone, for the true measure brought to view is everything, and it is the very law of God. That law is to be carried into the smallest acts and dealings, and to learn it and live it lifts, ennobles, and makes holy the heart and the affections.

Spiritually the measuring is God's measuring of the person, calling for faithfulness in the least, and the taking of every little chamber and doorway and arch and pillar and gate shows that every least item is recorded. The whole duty of man set forth by that measure is to love God supremely and one's neighbor as oneself. A righteous life of honest, faithful dealing builds up the whole righteous stature and structure, forming character after the divine pattern in readiness for the glory to be revealed.
