The vision shows one like brass standing in the gate with a measuring reed in his hand, bringing the prophet to the inner court by the south gate and measuring that south gate by the same measures as the rest of the building. Nothing is left unmeasured or unrecorded, for the little chambers and doorways and arches and pillars are all taken, even to the great gate looking toward the east. That thorough and exact measuring proves that true measure is everything, and that true measure is the very law of God, which God puts into the least of men's acts and dealings.
Learning that law and living it elevates and ennobles and sanctifies, making a person faithful in the least, as with a wheat measure, and thereby fitted to live and to rule among the greatest. Through Jesus Christ power and grace are taken to build character after the divine model, to love God supremely and neighbor as self, so that a righteous life in honest, faithful dealing builds up the whole righteous stature and structure. When the pattern is completed it is to be shown to the house of Israel that they may be ashamed of their iniquities and measure the pattern, for the law of the house upon the top of the mountain is most holy, preparing them for the glory to be revealed and to come in.
