Ezekiel 40:37
And the posts thereof were toward the utter court; and palm trees were upon the posts thereof, on this side, and on that side: and the going up to it had eight steps. And the posts thereof were toward the utter court; and palm trees were upon the posts thereof, on this side, and on that side: and the going up to it had eight steps.
The posts toward the outer court with palm trees on either side and the eight steps are one measured detail in the vision of the temple building, where a man with the appearance of brass stood in the gate with a measuring reed in his hand and measured and recorded everything. He recorded the little chambers and doorways and arches and pillars and the great gate facing east, with every least item measured and recorded down to the smallest particular. The exactness of that measuring means that true measure is everything. That true measure is the law of God.
God puts that law into the least of human acts and dealings. By learning it and living it people are elevated and ennobled and sanctified in heart and affection. They are made faithful in the least and build character after the divine model. That building prepares for the glory to be revealed when the glory of God comes. The spiritual measure is God's measure of a person, which is to love God supremely and one's neighbor as oneself.
A righteous life in honest, faithful dealing builds up the whole righteous stature and structure. What is needed therefore are persons whose character and works measure life and things by God's exact measurement. They stand in contrast to those unenlightened by the Spirit who set up false standards and false values in place of God.
