The Bronze Man Measures the Temple Gateby emmanuel_higgins

Ezekiel 40:5

And behold a wall on the outside of the house round about, and in the man’s hand a measuring reed of six cubits long by the cubit and an hand breadth: so he measured the breadth of the building, one reed; and the height, one reed.

God measures His house by His own true measure, which is His law. The man with the appearance like brass stands in the gate with the reed in his hand and measures the breadth and the height of the wall. He measures every part of the building, including the little chambers and doorways and arches and pillars and the great gate facing east, with every least item recorded according to the reed.

The reed is the exact spiritual measure of character and works that God puts into even the least acts and dealings. It requires faithfulness in the least things, even in a mere measure of wheat, and supreme love to God and love to neighbor as self. Those who measure true by the reed are elevated, ennobled, and sanctified through the grace brought through Jesus Christ. They are built up after the divine model into a righteous stature and structure by honest and faithful dealing, prepared for the glory to be revealed when the glory of God enters. The measuring exposes iniquity to shame and declares the law of the house, that the whole boundary on the top of the mountain shall be most holy.
