Ezekiel 40:8

He measured also the porch of the gate within, one reed.

The vision records one detail in an exact measuring of God's house, with a man whose appearance was like brass standing in the gate with a reed in his hand, measuring the whole building and recording every least item by the reed. That measuring included the little chambers and the doorways and the arches and the pillars and the great gate looking toward the east. Within that full account, the porch of the gate within was measured at one reed.

The reed is God's true measure, which is the very law of God brought into the least of human acts and dealings. It is the spiritual measure of the person, by which character and works measure life and all things.

Learning that measure and living by it elevates and ennobles and sanctifies the heart and affections, and makes a person faithful in the least. Through the power and grace brought through Jesus Christ it builds character after the divine pattern. That righteous life of honest, faithful dealing, loving God supremely and neighbor as self, forms the whole righteous stature and structure. So formed, it prepares for the glory of God to come in and for that glory to be revealed.
