Ezekiel 40:9

Then measured he the porch of the gate, eight cubits; and the posts thereof, two cubits; and the porch of the gate was inward.

The eight cubits of the porch and its two-cubit posts belong to a far larger measuring, in which one like brass stood in the gate of the house with a reed in his hand and measured the whole building, setting down every little chamber and doorway and arch and pillar and the great gate facing east, with every least item recorded by the reed. That careful reckoning shows that true measure is everything, because the measure is the very law of God Himself. God puts that law into the least of human acts and dealings, so nothing small is left unmeasured. Spiritually the reed is God's measuring of the man, laid exactly upon character and works. By holding up the divine pattern it puts iniquity to shame.

The same measuring lifts and ennobles and sanctifies all who are faithful in the least. It honors those who love God supremely and their neighbor as themselves, and who in honest, faithful dealing build character after the divine model. Such building grows into a whole righteous stature and structure, complete and fitted together. That completed work prepares the way for the glory of God to enter. For this is the law of the house, that upon the top of the mountain its whole boundary shall be most holy.
