Ezekiel 41:17
To that above the door, even unto the inner house, and without, and by all the wall round about within and without, by measure. To that above the door, even unto the inner house, and without, and by all the wall round about within and without, by measure.
In the vision to which this verse belongs, a man whose appearance was like brass stood in the gate and measured the whole building with a reed in his hand. Every least item was recorded by that reed measurement, including the little chambers and doorways and arches and pillars and the great gate facing toward the east. The space above the door even unto the inner house, and without, and by all the wall round about within and without, was set down by measure.
True measure is everything, and it is the very law of God, while in a spiritual sense it is God's measure of the person. The measuring means that life and character and works are to be tested by God's exact standard, requiring faithfulness in the least in acts and dealings, even in small daily measures such as the wheat measure, and loving God supremely and neighbor as self. By taking the power and grace brought through Jesus Christ and by the will of God, character is to be built up after the divine model, elevated and ennobled and sanctified in heart and affection, preparing for the glory to be revealed and to live and rule among the greatest entrusted with the divine cause. After the measuring was completed the glory of God entered, and the house is to be shown to Israel so they may be ashamed of their iniquities and measure the pattern, for this is the law of the house, that upon the top of the mountain the whole limit thereof shall be most holy.
