Ezekiel 41:26

And there were narrow windows and palm trees on the one side and on the other side, on the sides of the porch, and upon the side chambers of the house, and thick planks.

Ezekiel 41:26 is one of the smallest details in the vision of Ezekiel 40-43, where a man with the appearance of brass stood in the gate of the house and measured the whole building with a reed in his hand. He recorded every little chamber and doorway and arch and pillar, and the great gate facing east, including the sides of the porch and the side chambers with their narrow windows and palm trees and thick planks. The carefulness of that measuring shows that true measure is everything and is the very law of God. God puts that measure into the least of human acts and dealings, so that spiritual measure is God's measure of the person. The vision calls the house of Israel to be ashamed of iniquities and to measure the pattern, for this is the law of the house, that upon the top of the mountain its whole surrounding limit shall be most holy.

The verse therefore calls for people whose character and works measure life and things by God's exact measurement. A righteous life in honest and faithful dealings makes up the whole righteous stature and structure. Those who learn and live this measure are elevated and ennobled and sanctified in heart and affection. They are made faithful in the least so as to live and rule among the greatest and be entrusted with the divine cause. They take the power and grace brought through Jesus Christ to build character after the divine model in supreme love to God and love to neighbor as self, which is the whole duty of humanity, in preparation for the glory to be revealed when the glory of God comes in.
