Ezekiel Prophesies Against the Mountains of Israelby emmanuel_higgins

Ezekiel 6:4

And your altars shall be desolate, and your images shall be broken: and I will cast down your slain men before your idols.

Ezekiel 6:4 belongs to the prophet's messages of warning addressed to the captives of Israel, given after the revelation of divine glory had fitted him to stand fearlessly before a sinful people. The word foretells that God Himself would lay waste the altars, shatter the images, demolish the high places, and cast down the slain before their idols upon every high hill, that they might know that He is the Lord.

It declares His anger against manifold sins, in that He would abandon His people to destruction at the hand of their enemies. That abandonment was fulfilled in the Roman overthrow of Judea, consummated at Masada, where the high fenced fortress in which the people trusted was brought low and nine hundred and sixty lay slain upon that high hill.
