Ezekiel 6:7

And the slain shall fall in the midst of you, and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

The verse belongs to the first twenty chapters of Ezekiel, spoken among the captives by the river Chebar in Babylonia while Jeremiah was prophesying in Jerusalem. It is God's word to destroy Israel's high places, with the slain to fall in the midst of the people.

That word was fulfilled in the multitude of slain lying upon the high hill fortress of Masada, that high rock where nine hundred and sixty lay dead. Their trusted high and fenced walls were burned and broken down after the ruin of the holy city and temple. This proves God's anger over manifold sins and His giving the nation over to destruction. Through such punishment they would know that He is the LORD, with these curses upon them as a sign and a wonder.
