Ezekiel 6:8

Yet will I leave a remnant, that ye may have some that shall escape the sword among the nations, when ye shall be scattered through the countries.

Ezekiel's prophecy was delivered among Israel's captives during a ministry dated from 595 to 574 B.C. He came from a priestly family and received visions of God's glory before bringing warnings and reproof to his people. The judgment foretold destroys high places, leaves slain men upon every high hill, and brings siege against all gates until the high and fenced walls in which the people trusted come down.

Yet God would still leave a remnant preserved to escape the sword among the nations when the people were scattered through other countries. This was illustrated by the fall of the high fortress of Masada, where 960 lay slain upon the height while only seven persons hid in caverns below ground and escaped alive. These curses rested upon them for a sign and for a wonder.
