Ezekiel 6:9

And they that escape of you shall remember me among the nations whither they shall be carried captives, because I am broken with their whorish heart, which hath departed from me, and with their eyes, which go a whoring after their idols: and they shall lothe themselves for the evils which they have committed in all their abominations.

To be broken with an unfaithful heart that has turned away and with eyes that pursue idols means to resent human wickedness and to be grieved to the heart by it. God is not an unconcerned spectator of such unfaithfulness but one injured and offended by it. It is as an affectionate father beholds the folly and stubbornness of a rebellious child with displeasure and grief. Such speech is after the manner of men, a gracious condescension of heavenly things to shallow earthly apprehension, as speaking to children in their own language in accommodation to their capacities to convey meaning. It implies a painful sense that the outcome does not correspond with the design, and it denotes an altering of conduct in bestowing good or inflicting evil on account of a change in the creatures, which is a change of work and not of will.

Those who escape and are carried captive among the nations shall remember God in exile. There they shall recognize that their idolatrous and unfaithful heart departed from Him and grieved Him. In remorse for the evils and abominations committed they shall loathe themselves.

The judgment is for manifold sins, in which the high places are destroyed and the high and fenced walls wherein the people trusted are brought down throughout the land. Slain men lie upon every high hill in siege, that they may know that He is the Lord. This was fulfilled at the high rock fortress of Masada, where nine hundred and sixty lay slain and only a few hid and escaped. Their fall proved that the nation stood condemned to destruction and left to its enemies.
