Ezekiel 7:1

Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

The verse introduces the Lord's message to Ezekiel recorded in chapter 7. Ezekiel received it as God's mouthpiece among the captives in Babylonia by the river Chebar while Jeremiah was prophesying in Jerusalem. The verse exemplifies the word of the Lord coming to the prophets, whose words were both their own words and the words of the Holy Spirit.

The chapter it opens is a graphic prophecy and warning describing sin and its consequences that reaches down to the present day. The chapter prophesies the coming time of trouble for the nations, an unparalleled distress preceding Christ's glorious appearing and associated with the outpouring of the seven last plagues. The chapter calls for the character required of God's people in the last days, to heed its testimony with mourning and weeping rather than joking and jesting.
