Ezekiel 7:16

But they that escape of them shall escape, and shall be on the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them mourning, every one for his iniquity.

Those who escape are the saints scattered on the mountains, having fled from cities and villages while the wicked pursue them, mourning like doves and each grieving over his own iniquity. This takes place at the commencement of the time of trouble, when the Sabbath is proclaimed more fully with the Holy Ghost. At that same time sword, famine, pestilence and great confusion are literally in the land.

The wicked believe those judgments were brought upon them by those who keep the Sabbath, so they rise up and take counsel to rid the earth of them in order to stay the evil. After the decree has gone forth that as many as will not worship the image of the beast shall be killed, the saints in that last closing strife mourn apart, every family apart, like doves of the valleys with every one grieving over his own iniquity. Their mourning is the day-and-night cry of the elect for deliverance, with the spirit of grace and supplication poured upon them. Like Jacob they wrestle until the breaking of the day, until they are delivered by the voice of God.
