Ezekiel 7:20

As for the beauty of his ornament, he set it in majesty: but they made the images of their abominations and of their detestable things therein: therefore have I set it far from them.

Ezekiel was a priest serving as God's prophet among the captives taken to Babylonia with King Jehoiachin in 597 B.C., while Jeremiah was prophesying in Jerusalem. The verse stands in a part of the book giving earnest instruction about moral conduct together with prophecies concerning Judah, Jerusalem, and other kingdoms. Within the first twenty chapters, the visions show God's overruling providence over the nations and that he is ruling.

The term for images denotes physical figures fashioned by human hands. Israel made figures of things God abhorred and set them among its treasured and majestic ornament, so God removed that ornament from them. The chapter describes the character belonging to God's people in the last days as mourning and weeping rather than joking and jesting.
