Ezekiel 7:26
Mischief shall come upon mischief, and rumour shall be upon rumour; then shall they seek a vision of the prophet; but the law shall perish from the priest, and counsel from the ancients. Mischief shall come upon mischief, and rumour shall be upon rumour; then shall they seek a vision of the prophet; but the law shall perish from the priest, and counsel from the ancients.
To shape one's course by personal understanding while turning away from the Lord's message leads to a time of unanswered longing for divine direction. The verse reveals that misfortune heaped upon misfortune and report upon report will leave such people seeking a vision from the Lord. Their seeking will not succeed, for the vision they desire will be withheld from them. Rejection of heaven-sent guidance therefore ends in spiritual destitution, when help is wanted but cannot be obtained.
