Ezekiel 7:3

Now is the end come upon thee, and I will send mine anger upon thee, and will judge thee according to thy ways, and will recompense upon thee all thine abominations.

The opening portion of Ezekiel, including chapter 7, belongs to his ministry among the captives in Babylonia by the river Chebar, while Jeremiah was prophesying in Jerusalem. The verse announces that the end has come upon the people, and that God will send His anger upon them, judging them according to their ways and recompensing upon them all their abominations. Chapter 7 is a graphic prophecy of judgment that reaches down to the present day.

This end concerns the final judgment at the close of probation and the events surrounding the Lord's coming, when God's anger falls in destruction on the wicked while His people receive mercy and deliverance. The surrounding chapter describes a day of trouble and wrath in which wealth cannot save the wicked. The chapter foretells a coming time of unprecedented trouble just before Christ's return, including the seven last plagues poured out upon the wicked.

The chapter sets forth clear and strong principles about sin and righteousness and the true nature of repentance. The judgment declared in the verse vindicates God's justice over created beings who have freedom to act and are accountable to Him for their actions. The chapter stands as testimony about the character God's people should have in the last days, calling them to mourning and weeping rather than joking and jesting, and to heed that testimony.
